For this Kookaburra I used Scheepjes Catona 4 ply yarn. 35g of Bridal White (105), 15g of Hazelnut (503), 4g of Cyan (397) and 5g of Metal Grey (242) . You can obviously use any colours or brand you fancy but the results will be different. You can make this in any weight yarn, but please use the smallest hook you can manage, again the size and appearance of the end result will differ. Mercerised cotton yarn prevents too much stretch so helps to reduce the visibility of the stuffing , plus it isn’t fluffy so the pattern of the African Flower shape shows more clearly. Scheepjes Catona is my all time favourite yarn for African Flower work. Other names for 4 ply are 2 weight, sport yarn, fingering, baby etc Please check your countries equivalent.
I used a 2mm crochet hook, a long darning needle, toy stuffing, 10mm safety eyes, stitch markers, dressmakers pins, invisible thread or dressmakers cotton is useful to prevent stitches showing on the beak and eye patches.
