African Flowers Hot Water Bottle Cover
Originally only for download at my online yarn store - naturalyarns, this pattern is now also available as a Ravelry download!
ALTHOUGH THIS PATTERN WAS OFFERED FOR FREE FOR A TIME, IT IS NOT AN INVITATION FOR OTHERS TO CHANGE THE HEXAGON PATTERN AND/OR YARN WEIGHT AND REPUBLISH THE CONSTRUCTION AS THEIR OWN - IT STILL FALLS UNDER COPYRIGHT
This pattern is ideal for stash busting / using up bits of favorite yarn left over from other projects!
This pattern uses the African Flower Hexagon & the Half African Flower Hexagon, and contains instructions for assembling these shapes in such a way that they will fit your hot water bottle!
AFRICAN FLOWER HEXAGON:
This hot water bottle cover uses the free African Flower Hexagon crochet motif by Lounette Fourie & Anita Rossouw which was originally published in the South African Sarie Magazine in June 2009.
The motif is viewable through Ravelry with links to free tutorials. See the one on Heidi Bears blog for clear, step by step instructions.
HALF AFRICAN FLOWER HEXAGON:
There is a tutorial linked from Ravelry:
to here: which has instructions on making the Half African Flower Hexagons.
Materials Required:
-
Yarn scaps in co-ordinating colours - I have used wool, brushed mohair, bamboo and cotton. Choose a yarn which you have at least 50g of that will be your ‘main’ colour to join all the hexagons with and do the edgings. (I used a plied DK, 100% Merino yarn for my ‘main’ colour.)
-
3-5 mm (C-H/8) crochet hook (size to obtain the right size shapes for your hot water bottle)
-
50cm (20”) of satin ribbon - 10mm (0.4”) wide * 1 x hot water bottle!
