African Snow Flower Blanket
This pattern creates a blanket that is suitable for snuggling under or a decorative throw for sofa or single bed or even across a double bed.
It contains written instructions for the hexagons and half hexagons plus charts, with written instructions only for the border. There is also extra information about different stitches and techniques for people who may not have met them before.
The hook sizes above are only a rough guide and hooks should be chosen to make a hexagon of the given size or a little smaller with a .5mm smaller hook probably needed for the border.
The size given above is for the pictured blanket. There is a suggestion for making an alternative, possibly deeper, border if wanted. You could also use your own border.
The pattern is designed for DK/Light Worsted (3) weight yarn. It was made in Stylecraft Special DK acrylic yarn because this yarn has a sufficient variety of shades but any yarn of a similar weight could be used.
It uses twenty different colours plus white ‘snowflake’ centres and a neutral border. If using acrylic DK yarn you should only need less than 55g of each of the twenty colours plus almost 100g of white and about 260g of a neutral yarn for the edges.
The twenty colours need to comprise four different shades of five different colour families. The colour families are Red (including pink), Yellow / orange, Green, Blue, and Violet / purple. The pattern contains details of two different colour choices with photographs
It is worth noting that buying twenty 100g balls of Stylecraft Special DK coloured yarn would leave enough for the coloured part of my Eternity Knot blanket.
Many thanks for the feedback from my testers.
