The African Violet is the world’s most common household plant, and has long been associated with mothers and Mother’s Day. One of the most common color combinations of this plant is violet with a yellow center, and is why I chose to make this shawlette in violet with a hint of yellow separating the border from the body of the shawlette. However, this pattern would look good in any color combo or also in a solid shade. The African Violet Shawlette is a crescent-shaped wrap knit from the bottom up. It has a plume lace border, and graduates into a sandstorm cabled short row body. I knit it in 4 skeins (136.7 yards per skein) of Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima Fine sport weight 100% pima cotton yarn in “Pansy” which is color #3779. For the contrasting yellow yarn I used some yellow cotton yarn I had on hand…probably only a yard or less. The finished shawlette is just under 6 feet from end to end, and is 15 inches at its center, deepest point. Full charts as well as written instructions are provided in the pattern.
