Afterglow Shawl
The Afterglow Shawl is named for the colored light in the sky after sunset. Lace ripples grow from one vertex along two edges, blending into the main color like the sky at sunset. Puff stitches are interspersed to add texture and interest.
The triangular shawl is worked from one vertex. For the first half of the shawl, increase are made at both edges and decreases are made in the middle of the shawl. Then, increases are made only on one edge and decreases are made on the other edge and in the middle.
Kits are available from NJ Fiberworks. The kit will also make a matching Afterglow Cowl
Size: Approximately 68.5”/ 174 cm wide and 19.5”/ 49.5 cm deep before blocking and 83”/ 211 cm wide and 21.5”/ 54.5 cm deep after blocking.
Level: Intermediate/ Advanced
There is one special puff stitch and several different decrease stitches. The increases and decreases used to create the shawl shape in combination with the lace stitch pattern require some concentration. There is a full picture tutorial and a chart of the lace pattern repeat.
