Combine warm wool with elegant cables to make a headband which will help you stay toasty warm in chilly weather. Just a small amount of DK yarn is needed to knit this headband with garter stitch edging and twisting cables on a reverse stockinette background. The head band is worked flat and seamed at the centre back.
Needles: 3.5 mm / US size 4 needles for working flat.
Yarn: 30 (35, 40) g double knitting weight yarn, 225 m per 100 g.
Sample shown in A Little Bit Sheepish British Bluefaced Leicester double knitting yarn, 100%, 220 m per 100 g in “Pales”.
Notions: Tapestry needle, cable needle (optional).
Skills: Cast on, working flat, knit, purl, slipped stitches, increasing stitches, cabling, sewing seams (little ones), weaving in ends.
Gauge: 24 stitches and 48 rows over 10 cm in garter stitch. Gauge is not critical for this project, choose needles that give a fairly dense fabric for warmth, sizing can be tweaked when making.
Sizing: Pattern gives stitch counts for small (medium, large) adult size; approximately equivalent to 41 (46, 51) cm / 16 (18, 20)” knitted circumference. Aim for a size a little smaller than your actual measurements for a cosy, non-slip fit. Instructions are given for adjusting the size during the pattern.
Nov 2020 update- The pattern now has charted and written instructions for the cable sections.
