AGNESSE cowl
The motif of the Agnesse cowl is a knot with no beginning and no end, with small diamonds in the middle. The endless weave from bottom to top symbolises the interdependence of everything. The knot stands for eternal connection, protection and longevity - something many victims of the witchcraft persecution were denied.
You knit the cowl with two colours of DROPS AIR:
02 wheat 50 g
31 black 50 g
The cowl is slightly narrower at the top than at the bottom. This way it falls nicely on the shoulders. Work in the round. After a garter stitch border, knit in the counting pattern using the fair isle technique. Finish with a garter stitch border.
The cowl belongs to the bundle Agnesse, together with a vest and a jumper. In turn, Agnesse is part of MICCA, a collection of crafts that pays tribute to the many victims of the witch hunt.
The counting drawing of the Celtic knot or witch’s knot was distributed for free on the internet. So I did not draw it out myself, but copied it and incorporated it into the Agnesse cowl.
You can find my designs on my Ravelry page Micca-witchcraft. I will soon publish all bundles in one book, in which - in addition to the patterns’ work descriptions - I portray the cruel reality of the witchcraft persecution in an original way.
