The pattern says to use 4.5 or 5mm needles and dk weight (8 ply) wool however 4mm needles are more commonly used for this weight of yarn.

No gauge or size is given, however at a gauge of 22sts to 10cm the jumper will measure 40cm (16 inches) chest circumference. This is a suitable size for a newborn infant.
