Airish
The name of this hat is a word that is used in Scotland and in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina. One of its meanings is “cool and breezy.” The other is “tending to put on airs.” The name seemed appropriate, as this hat is perfect for airish days, and its wearer might just have a tendency to carry her head, and perhaps her nose, a bit higher, with this luxurious topper on her head.
The hat is worked in the round with two strands of yarn held double. The mohair/silk lace-weight yarn coupled with the merino worsted makes for a super-soft, warm hat with a pretty halo.
You can use a variety of yarn brands to knit this hat. Samples were knit up using the following combinations:
Pink Hat:
1 Skein each:
Malabrigo Rios - 192m/210 Yards - 100g - Merino Superwash - Color 689 Valentina.
Hedgehog Fibers Kidsilk Lace - 420m/459 yds - 50 g - 70@ kid mohair, 30% silk - Color Potluck.
