Fall 2021 Manos del Uruguay x Stephanie Earp

This simple yoke sweater has fun with marling - a technique where two yarns are held together to create a new color. In this case, natural grey Alpaca Heather is held alternatively with two different colors of mohair laceweight Cabrito, giving almost a watercolor effect.

For ease of knitting in the colorwork and striped i-cord sections, wind separate bobbins of the base color and hold each with a different shade of the Cabrito, instead of trying to switch out the mohair stitch by stitch.

Manos del Uruguay ALPACA HEATHER (70% wool, 30% alpaca; undyed colors approx. 328 yds/100 g): 3 (3, 4, 4) (4, 4, 5, 5) (5, 5, 5) sks MC.

Manos del Uruguay CABRITO (80% kid mohair, 20% polyamide; approx. 230 yds/25 g): 4 (5, 5, 5) (6, 6, 6, 6) (7, 7, 7) sks CC1, and 1 sk CC2 for all sizes.

GAUGE
18 sts and 27 rnds = 4”/10cm in St st with MC and a CC strand held together, after blocking (see Notes).

NOTES
This garment is worked in the round, in one piece, from the top down. After completing the circular yoke, the stitches are divided for working the lower body and sleeves separately in the round from the underarms down. The neckband, sleeve openings, and the lower body edge are finished with striped I-cord that alternates the two contrast colors.
