This lovely shawl is a great project for beginning brioche knitters. Worked from the top down, the pattern begins with a Garter Tab Cast On and proceeds into the brioche fabric, KYOK increases being worked at each end on the right side rows.

There is some simple short-rowing through the body of the shawl, a bit of Bird’s Eye lace and the piece culminates with a Picot Bind Off.

Video tutorials guide you through each step of the process.

Yarn: Malabrigo Sock Yarn or
The Fiber Seed Sprout or
any fingering weight yarn
440 (700) yds - 1(2) skeins

Model shown in larger, three-color size using Three Irish Girls and Fiber Seed Sprout Seedlings Sock Yarn

Three Color Shawl yardage requirements :
Brioche - 420(460) yds
Bird’s Eye Lace - 132(165) yds
Picot Bind Off - 40(43) yds

Gauge: 20 sts and 30 rows = 4” /10 cm, unblocked
14 sts and 25 rows = 4”/10 cm, blocked
in brioche stitch

Needles: US6/4mm circular needles with 32” cable.

Two Sizes: 65”(67”) across and 20”(24”) deep

The brioche opens up hugely when blocked!

This shawl is amazingly adaptable to different sizing and is unfussy about exact number of stitches. If you make the brioche portion larger, consider working a couple or four more rows of the Bird’s Eye lace to keep the shawl’s proportions.
