Alan Cowl
This pattern has not been tech edited nor test knitted and is provided for free.
The Alan Cowl is a large cozy cowl. It is knitted flat using colored blocks in garter stitch, which are later joined in the round. The width and length of the cowl can be easily adapted, and the colored blocks offer various options to play with leftover yarn. A perfect project to relax, with the little extra to create a simple and modern look.
MATERIAL
La Bien Aimée Corrie Worsted (75% Falkland Corriedale, 25% Gotland), 250 yards / 230 meters per 100 grams. DK/worsted weight.
Color A: Direwolf. Two skeins. Color B: Smoke. Two skeins. Notably, only approximately 300 grams are used form the second skeins.
Gauge blocked: 24 stitches and 52 rows per 4 inches in garter stitch.
Needle size: 3.5 mm (US 4). A 3.5 mm needle was used in order to create a nicely dense fabric for the cowl to stand up firm.

PICKING-UP STITCHES
For a clean and almost reversible fabric, pick-up stitches by inserting the needle into the outer most bump along the edge of the garter ridge. Pick-up one stitch for each garter ridge (1 ridge = 2 rows). A tutorial on the pick-up technique is provided on the Purl Soho website; scroll down to “Along a vertical edge: Garter stitch, into the Ridge” (https://www.purlsoho.com/create/picking-up-stitches/).
