Alayna Shawl
The Alayna shawl was designed for a friend who wanted an elegant and warm shawl for her bridesmaids. Pair it with a white shirt and jeans for a night out, over a dress, or wear it just to keep the chill away at home or office. You can style it in many ways.
Skills Needed: Judy’s Magic Cast-On (tutorial links), instructions are included for: Z-Pleat and S-Pleat.
Needles: US #15 (10mm) 24” circular, or size to obtain gauge. US #15 straight needles can be used to knit the shawl, but circulars are required for the cast on. Two US #11 up to #15 (8-10mm) dpns for pleats. For pleats, dpn size does not affect gauge.
Picking a size: Please pick the pattern bust size that is closest to your actual bust size at the widest point. Please do no choose your clothing size or your bra band size--that just won’t work. This garment was designed with negative ease so that it stays on.
Yarn Substitution and Gauge: I do not recommend yarns that lack memory or have lots of drape. Please do a blocked swatch to get your gauge. If your blocked gauge is off, especially for the row gauge, then you may not have enough yarn to complete your shawl. If in doubt, always buy extra yarn. Yardage is approximate.
Notions: 3 split ring markers, stitch holder, tapestry needle, sewing needle, thread, three 1”-1 ¼” flat buttons (there are no button holes).
Optional Notions: satin ribbon bow, pom-poms,
fingering weight yarn for i-cord, 1” shank button for
removable embellishments.
This pattern has been tech edited and test knit.
Thank you to my wonderful test knitters. You ladies rock!!
