Acrylic yarns are recommended for easy care and this yarn will not shrink or stretch.

A leg of the head cover is knitted. In the picture a variegated yarn called Harlequin from Caron Simply Soft Paints. But any variegated or solid acrylic yarn can be used.

After the leg is completed the yarn is changed to a white acrylic yarn and the inner sock is knitted. Stitches are picked up at the base of where the head starts and the outer sock is completed. The sock is stuffed with polyester fiber, buttons are added. A bill is knitted and 3 craft sticks are placed inside the bill for stiffness and sown on to the face of the head cover. Buttons are added by sewing them on.
