The shawlette’s name, Alcea, means hollyhock and it was inspired by the beautiful color of this Malabrigo yarn. I chose the traditional Ogee lace pattern because I adore its delicate floral motif and I have always thought that it would make a lovely crescent shawl perfect for spring.

Alcea is worked in one piece starting with the cast on at the bottom edge of the lace panels followed by easy short rows (no wraps) that shape its elongated crescent form. For this design, I simplified the Ogee pattern by changing the reverse to easy purled rows so that all the lace shaping is done on the right side of the work.
