This toe-up sock is really a ribbed design, but with a difference - the gusset springs out of the central column, giving the socks their distinctive diagonal appearance.

A word of warning
Because the diagonals pull the fabric in and make it less stretchy, the socks are sized with very little negative ease, please bear that in mind when choosing your size, don’t just think of the number of stitches you would normally use for a ribbed sock. You may need to give them a little tug to get them on, though once they’re on they fit perfectly. There are tips for how to add some extra “give” around the instep if you have particularly high insteps or think that this will bother you.

Sizes - measured around mid-foot

  • Small - 7” (17.75cm)
  • Medium - 8” (20.25cm)
  • Large - 9” (22.75cm)

Notions

  • stitch markers x 4
  • tapestry needle for weaving in the ends

Instructions for the pattern are both charted and fully written out so you can choose which you prefer.
I’d love it if you’d come to my group to show off your lovely socks, or chat about them while you’re making them. You’d be very welcome!
