Aldrick of the Badger Folk
PDF for Aldrick of the Badger Folk Amigurumi Crochet Pattern Only, not the Finished Product
Meet Aldrick, a badger forest warden, living a solitary quiet life in the wilds. He doesn’t get many visitors, but any that do stumble across his domain are treated to good simple food and good tales. This crochet pattern brings him to life as a 25 cm tall badger (using DK yarn and a 2.75 mm hook) with options for semi-poseable legs and arms, and includes instructions for his removable hooded cowl.
This 21 page pattern includes 38 colour images to guide you through each step. This pattern includes detailed colourwork, so might not be the best start for absolute beginners.
Key Details:
- Size: Approximately 25 cm tall when made with DK yarn and a 2.75 mm hook.
- Yarn & Hook: Designed for DK weight yarn, but you can use another weight as long as it’s consistent. Gauge isn’t critical, but keep it tight. Example images use Classic 8PLY Wool from Bendigo Woollen Mills.
- Skill Level: Intermediate to advanced due to the colourwork.
- Full Colour PDF: 21 pages, written in US crochet terms
Materials:
- Yarn – The pattern is made for DK weight yarn, but being Amigurumi, gauge isn’t super important (as long as it’s tight), and you can easily switch it out for a different weight. Just make sure all the yarn used is the same weight and it should still work. I’ve used small bits of Classic & Woodlands 8PLY Wool from Bendigo Woollen Mills for my badger. -- Colour A: White for the face and ears -- Colour B: Black for the head, nose, limbs, ears, and belly -- Colour C: A grey, preferably mottled with black or brown for the back and tail. I’ve used Bendigo Woollen Mills Woodlands 8 ply. -- Colour D: Hooded cowl -- Colour E: Trim for the hooded cowl
- 2.75mm crochet hook to keep the stitches nice and tight. Depending on your yarn you may need to go up or down sizes to match.
- Stuffing
- Sewing pins to keep things in place as you stitch them together (not absolutely necessary, but can help keep things from sliding around)
- Stitch marker to keep track of rounds (I use an extra little piece of yarn)
- Yarn needle (or smaller if you prefer to attach pieces with thread)
- Scissors
