This summer, yellow is the fashionable colour. So I have chosen to make a yellow shawl and I designed Alegranza! Why I have called it Alegranza? Alegranza is a small island on the Canary archipelago, uninhabited a heaven for birds and with dry vegetation. It is a very special place and very yellow. I made the main version in yellow-green colour and a complementary version in golden yellow!

This Alegranza shawl is also special. It looks complicated but in fact it is a lace shawl for beginners, very easy to knit. You start with a garter tab cast on (a tuto is joined to the pattern) and then you work the lace pattern, which is easy to memorize and knit. After making few swatches I selected a lace pattern found in a Barbara Walker book (Eyelet Puff). It is a little bumpy and you cannot make it lie completely flat, except for the last row. So, the pattern starts closed like flower bud and finishes open like mature flower. I love it. I chose one of my favourite edgings, classical and easy to memorize. For fun, and to help to follow the rows, I have added some beads. The shawl is lightweight, graceful and feminine. The perfect piece to bring on a journey!

In the main version (yellow green) the motifs are staggered; in the complementary version (golden yellow) the motifs are centered one on top of the other.

Materials
Yarn
The shawl is knitted with any kind of lace yarn. The model is adaptable to a heavier yarn, as long as it can be strongly blocked (avoid acrylic). The samples shown are knitted with version 1: Lace alpaca di Luce,100g (3.5 oz), 800 m (875 yds), hand dyed yellow green with indigo and gaude (Reseda luteola) 1 skein; version 2: Merino di Luce 100% merino, 100 g (3.5 oz), 750 m (820 yds); hand dyed with whin 1 skein.
Needles and hook

• 3.75 mm (US 5) circular needle 80 cm (31 in).
• 0,6 mm or 0,7 mm hook

Notions
2 stitch markers; tapestry needle; 270 beads minimum.

Gauge
10 cm x 10 cm (4 in x 4 in): 18 sts and 19 rows with 3.75 mm (US 5) needles and lace yarn through lace pattern, after blocking.
