This pattern is called “Alegria” which is the Portuguese and Spanish word for joy or happiness. I called the pattern after this word as sometimes you have a down moment in life. The things you want to accomplish doesn’t seem to succeed and it is sometimes better to accept it for a while. Once you pick those things up once again and you do succeed, the amount of joy and happiness you’ll get from it is amazing. This is actually the story for this pattern. I’ve put it away several times and once I took it up again it was here in a few days. Every pattern takes its own time and moment, I guess. I do hope you like it and I made some cushions out of the pattern, but as it is just a simple square pattern the options are endless.

Materials needed:

• crochet hook size 4,0 mm
• scissors and sewing needle
• cushion 40cm x 40 cm (optional)
• stitch markers (optional)

Yarn needed:
The pattern is made in two colors. I chose Scheepjes Soft fun which comes in balls of 50 grams with a length of 140 meters (153 yards). For a complete square you will need 2 colors of yarn. One ball of Color A and two of Color B. But for a cushion which holds two squares it is different. So, if you would like to produce a cushion out of it you need two balls of Color A and three balls of Color B. In the examples I used colorway 2625 as Color A and colorway 2510 as Color B – this is the green/light grey version. For the yellow/dark grey version is used colorway 2621 as Color A and colorway 2601 as Color B.

Stitches used in the pattern are all regular stitches, there are only a lot of front post stitches used. So please note that you need to know how to make front post stitches for this pattern.

The pattern doesn’t hold a chart. There is a very clear photo tutorial which guides you through the whole pattern and even shows you how to make a cushion out of it when wanted.

Size:
The size of a finished square is: 39 x 39 cm / 15,5 inches x 15,5 inches
The finished size of the cushion will be: 40 x 40 cm / 15,7 inches x 15,7 inches
