Here is a terrific pattern for the introduction of knitting socks from the cuff down with four double pointed needles. It has a slip stitch heel with toes grafted with Kitchener Stitch (diagrams included for explanation of KS). The cuff is 2x2 ribbing and the rest of the sock is in stockinette stitch.
This patten has been professionally tech edited by Kristen TenDyke and had over half a dozen test knitters contribute and check this pattern so it is as clear as possible.
There are diagrams and full explanations of knitting each section of the sock. Or, if you are a sock veteran and would like a plain vanilla sock pattern, there is a separate section that is “Just the Facts, Ma’am” pattern without the explanations.

If only one number is listed, it is used for all sizes.
Although personal preferences vary, knit socks at least 1” smaller in circumference and 1/2” shorter than the actual measurement of the foot (back of heel to tip of toes) for a snug fit. Socks stretch both in length and width when wearing.
Lengths given in sizes are merely a starting point. Begin toe decreases when sock is approximately 1.75” from desired finished length.
There are 6 pages total in the pattern. Two sample pages are shown.
