Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the U.S. Representative for New York’s 14th congressional district, and one of the most progressive people in elected office in the United States. My main activity outside of work and crochet is political activism, and AOC’s primary win in 2018 is what inspired me to get involved. Seeing how she won with a huge collective of young people knocking doors for her made me ask why I wasn’t one of those people, so I got up off the couch and started canvassing for other NYC candidates the very next week.

Her TAX THE RICH dress at the Met Gala made a lot of waves, and got a lot of people who already didn’t like AOC to talk more about how they don’t like her. But she is my inspiration and political lodestar, and someone who I’ve already wanted to crochet, so I couldn’t help but make what is now her most iconic outfit. I hope this helps spread the message that we need to tax the rich (especially in state and city government where we can’t deficit spend!!) just like her dress has.
