Alexis top and dress
skill level: advanced beginner
No need to match gauge, choose your own yarn and the excel calculator will do all the counting~~
Say hello to Alexis, my beloved chic crochet one shoulder top which can be turn into a dress (don’t worry this pattern includes instruction for dress version too).
The inspiration behind this design is actually simple, I am trying to design a pretty one shoulder that is red carpet worthy,
perfect for party, dinner date or even a casual (yet stylish) stroll at the park.
lol if you think that Alexis kinda remind you of my favorite og design #nicoletop, then you are not wrong!
I have been obsessed with drape and ruffles, therefore I had been trying to implemented it in alexis too~
of course it is not easy, I frogged a lot during the process and had to toss out 2 (and a half) prototype that I made
before I finally come up with the final design of alexis, but I guess it is all worth it <3
(check out alexis’ older sister, Nicole top)
About this pattern:
• Pattern is written in English with standard US terms.
• As I am a right-handed, this pattern is written with right-handed crocheters in mind, left-handed crocheters should crochet in different direction).
• This pattern is suitable for advanced beginner crocheters
• This crochet pattern works in rows
About this top:
• This is a wrap one shoulder top, wrapped on the waist.
• This top will have loose fit on the bust and tight fit on the waist.
• This top looks best in cropped length.
p.s: I know some might say that my written pattern looks so intimidating because of the oh so many pages
and the supplementary excel spreadsheet. But don’t worry, this long pdf file means there are tons of
step by step picture and diagrams to help you get through it.
++ with the excel spreadsheet, you won’t need to do math, the excel will do it for you
(because I know, I am not the only one who hate math, and I am not the only one who are just too lazy to match gauge).
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A DIGITAL
CROCHET PATTERN AND TUTORIAL ONLY,
NOT A FINISHED ITEM / PRODUCT.
There will be NO physical item, product, material or tools to be send.
All the pattern and instruction is written in English, using standard US terms.
Materials & tools needed:
• #1 Fingering weight yarn / #2 Sport weight yarn
• Respective crochet hook for any weight yarn that you choose and one size larger hook (one size larger means 3.00 mm and 3.50 mm, or 4.00mm and 4.50 mm, etc).
• Scissors
• Stitch markers
• Measuring tape / ruler
• Elastic thread / Elastic cord (this will be optional, depends on the final fit of your neckline, some of my testers didn’t need to add any elastic thread)
Yarn recommendation:
- DO NOT USE pure acrylic / wool yarn, because it will end up too fluffy.
- Cotton yarn (100% cotton yarn, cotton blend, cotton bamboo) will create more crisp, defined and structured drape.
- Lightweight acrylic blend yarn (such as 3 ply milk cotton yarn) might work, but it will create puffier drape.
- For dress version: acrylic blend yarn and pure acrylic yarn is NOT RECOMMENDED, because the nature of acrylic blend yarn is stretchy, hence the skirt part will pull down the waist ribbing and it will not look good. Cotton blend / pure cotton / bamboo yarn is highly recommended for dress version as they have more structure to hold the weight of the skirt part.
My testers (ranging from bust circumference 78 cm to 99 cm) used approximately:
• #1 fingering weight pure cotton yarn approx 150 g - 300 g
• #1 fingering weight cotton blend yarn approx 120 g - 250 g
• #2 sport weight pure cotton yarn approx 200 g - 360 g
• #2 sport weight cotton blend yarn approx 150 g - 300 g
(it is highly depends on the yarn weight, bust size, and the sleeve length. I put the detailed info on how much yarn does each testers used in the lookbook)
Based on my measurement (for a top, bust 81 cm, top height 34 cm):
- One shoulder top, top height 35 cm, I used approximately 170 g of #1 fingering weight cotton blend yarn in red wine color, triple pulled with 2 strands of glittery thread.
- One shoulder dress, full length, I used approximately 470 g of #1 fingering weight cotton blend yarn in red wine color, triple pulled with 2 strands of glittery thread.
- One shoulder top, top height 35 cm, I used approximately 120 g of #2 sport weight weight acrylic blend yarn (WPI 15) in beige color.
- One shoulder top, top height 35 cm, I used approximately 215g of #2 sport weight yarn (#1 fingering weight cotton blend yarn in navy blue color, quadruple pulled with 2 strands of glittery thread + 1 strand of sequin thread)
Crochet hook reference:
- #1 fingering weight cotton blend yarn + 2 strands of glittery thread : 3.00 mm for FC, 2.50 mm for front and back panel, 3.00mm for the skirt
- #2 sport weight acrylic blend yarn in beige color: 4.00 mm for FC, 3.50 mm for front and back panel
- #1 fingering weight cotton blend yarn + 2 strands of glittery thread + sequin yarn: 4.00 mm for FC, 3.50 mm for front and back panel
