This summer I was invited to a wonderful tea party. The invitation stated: “Wear a hat, bring a friend and have fun”. The only thing I was missing was a hat, so I decided to make one. I am not trying to brag here (or am I?) but my hat was the talk of the party. Now you can make one like it too!

The hat is inspired by flapper style. I was deep into the third season of “Boardwalk Empire” while crocheting it. This crochet summer hat uses a very simple crochet pattern. Even beginners will find it easy. And you can make it while watching a show, which is always a plus in my book.

It’s made of sport-weight 100% cotton yarn, and has a mesh panel for extra breathability. Decorate it with a flower and wear with the brim up or down. All the ladies will gush about it, guaranteed.

The hat is crocheted in a spiral so there is no unseemly seam from connecting the rows. But if you prefer, you may join each row with a slip stitch. Don’t forget to count the first chain of the row as a first sc in this case.
