Knotty Knitters For autism Calendar 2013

This project is to help raise money for Autism.

Alhambra is knit in the round, with twisted stitches. You can replace the bobble with a bead to give it some bling.

I designed this in 2010 and wore it on my trip thru Germany and Poland. It was a trip to promote healing and reconciliation between Jews, Germans, Poles, Protestants and Catholics.
We went thru the towns surrounding the concentration camps, handed out roses, held musical concerts.
The cowl wound up not coming home with me, it was placed around the neck of a Beautiful German woman, a countess, who held my hand and prayed the kaddish with me at Auschwitz.

Alhambra was once an amazing place were jews, christians and muslims to coexist in a spirit of mutual respect. Moorish poets described it as “a pearl set in emeralds,” (thus the bobble). It’s name means ‘the red one’.

I hope it will promote more healing and raise awareness.

Some prisons are invisible and trap the souls, others the mind. Some prisons are our own bodies.

Knitting for freedom from scars and prisons, to find peace with in and with out.
