A Sport weight shawl; Alia is a little snugglier than a fingering weight shawl without all of the weight of worsted.

Less complex both visually and in execution, Alia utilizes the same winged crescent construction as Atreides combined with an easier lace pattern. There is no work to be done in the lace on the wrong side rows, so once you have the hang of the lace motif it should be smooth sailing. An advanced beginner could probably manage this shawl, but it might be a challenge.

As with my other shawls there are two size options, but instead of simply adding repeats to create a larger shawl I have enlarged the main lace motif and trim so that they have the same visual presence and balance as the smaller shawl. Unlike my other shawls, there is an extreme difference in size between the small and the large. The small takes between 350 & 400 yards whereas the Large needs 650 to 700 yards. The Small is a shawlette and the large is a big shawl.

The instructions are primarily written, with a small chart option for the lace trim. You will need 10 stitch markers to complete this piece.

Alia is being released with a companion shawl, Lady Jessica. When I was designing Alia my goal was a simple shawl - but it kept trying to get more complicated. I finally gave up and made notes for the modifications and created the second shawl. If you like the look of this but wish it was a bit fancier - check out Lady Jessica.
