Volunteer Editors Please Respect Me

I often use vintage yarns or threads that are NOT in ravelry’s database. I have still entered them and they are not linked. Or I put in information that may not have been available because ravelry changes it’s options over time. If you feel that a change is needed to my pattern page, PLEASE PM ME ON RAVELRY.

Please respect me and send me a PM. Please do not change my pattern pages.

Named after Alia Atreides, sister of Paul Atreides, characters from the Dune universe created by Frank Herbert. Alia was her own self.

How many times have you not been able to match the right gauge? Well, I never can match anyone’s gauge. I wrote this with size guidelines, each step of the way.

You can adjust the size of your hexagons. The length of your straps. Whether you want one or two sets of border stitches around the neckline and armholes. The length? Ah well, that is up to you. The border can be repeated as long as you like and in different ways.

This is an adorable crop top for those gals who have that perfect waist. My days of crop tops are long gone. I sure loved to wear them when I did have a waist!

If waist length isn’t your thing, don’t worry. You can make this top as long as you like. It is designed to be modified for your own personal body type.

Yarn Recommendations
I designed this top using #10 cotton crochet thread. Why? Because I love using crochet thread. It’s light and airy for summer time. You don’t have to block it – just iron it and you are good to go. But blocking still works, if that’s what you prefer.

Do you have to use #10 crochet thread? Not at all. Because the pattern is written with size recommendations, you can use any fiber you like. I do recommend that you stick to lighter weights of yarn because that helps to keep this top breezy and flowing.

Your yarn should be a fiber that can be blocked, ironed or steamed.

Hook Over Method
This pattern recommends a method called “hook over” instead of the traditional “yarn over” when placing your hook into the stitch below. The method is optional. Your top will look just fine if you use the traditional method. This is your chance to try out “hook over” and see how easy it is, even for an advanced beginner. When working “in the round”, the Hook Over method takes the slant out of your stitches and straightens them. The overall finish is very nice.

All of this contributes to a visually appealing, crocheted top. It has been engineered to have balanced stitches and yet to be flexible enough that you can adjust it to your own size and look.

Printer Friendly
Check out the Random Information Section at the end of the pattern before printing. This is where the samples that I made are pictured with complete project details. Print just the sections you need.

Hook Size
You will use two different hooks for this pattern. The hook you choose to work with your fiber and then the next larger size for the crocheted seams. Hook recommendations are given for #10 crochet cotton thread. Since you don’t have to match gauge, use the hook that you feel gives you the look you desire for your chosen fiber.

Overview
This pattern consists of 4 large motifs that are crocheted together. The straps are then crocheted to the motif top. One end of the straps is sewn on with a yarn needle as this gives a nice finished look. Then you work the armhole, neckline and hemline edgings and then borders. All crocheted onto the top, as you go.

This is a top you can have fun with the color and design. Be your own self.
