Alicante Shawl
Inspiration
All my patterns have geographical names - this time I want to honor my favorite place for sunny holidays. Alicante is a beautiful city with very relaxing atmosphere and lots of lovely places perfect for slowing down. And of course for perfect vacation you need easy and mindless travel knitting, right?
Skill level: Advanced beginner
About the pattern
This shawl is made for easy and relaxing knitting with top down construction and plain garter body. I love this kind of projects for travel knitting or gifts for knit worthy people. You can make this pattern using leftovers or only with one color - whatever suits your needs. You could use different color in every lace repeat if you want to! It is a good beginner friendly lace projects because there are just a few yarn overs to make at the edge border and final effect is spectacular and elegant. Lace chart is available in the pattern as well as written instructions.
Yarn
The pattern is written for fingering weight yarn, but is easy to adopt for lace as well as sport or DK (check projects for inspirations). For yarn substitution look for skeins with high wool content.
The sample was made using Zitron Seidenstrasse (100g/400 m, 65 % Merino extrafain, virgin wool / 35 % mulberry silk) in colorway 9012. It is plump, fat yarn and it knitted up more like sport weight, so bear that in mind choosing needle size for your project.
Sample was made using 1 skein - 100 g / 3.5 oz. and 400 m / 437 y for the body, 85 g / 3 oz. and 340 m / 370 y for lace border and bind off when work as written. Contrast bind off uses up 5 g / 0.2 oz. and 20 m / 22 y
Sizing
One size
about 210 cm / 82 inches wingspan
about 40 cm / 16 inches in the deepest point
The pattern was test knitted and proofread by English speaking people.
