Alice Mitts
If you purchase 3 patterns from my Ravelry Store at the same time (add them all to your cart before you check out), the least expensive one will be free.
These little colour work mitts offer scope for many different colour choices; perfect for using up yarn oddments.
The mitts are for knitting in the round and use one main colour with up to an additional 6 contrast colours. The mitts are interchangeable for each hand.
The instructions are given for a small/medium size, to fit a woman’s hand 6.5”- 7” circumference (16-18cm).
Suggested yarns: JC Rennie Supersoft Lambswool 4ply, Holst Yarns Supersoft, Jamieson’s Spindrift, J&S Jumper-weight 2ply yarn, Knit Picks Palette.
Suggested gauge: 30 sts/36 rounds = 10cm over stranded pattern using 3mm needles.
32 sts/40 rounds = 10cm over stockinette using 2.5 mm needles.
Techniques required: knitting in the round, familiarity with fair isle / stranded colourwork knitting, colour dominance, reading charts, backwards loop cast on, increases and decreases.
Note: Whilst the mitts are given for only one size, it is possible to increase the size by adding on another 3-4 stitches, distributed on either side of the thumb gusset, An additional set of thumb gusset increases would also be necessary to increase the gusset length.
The pattern has an additional pdf now with a variation in colourwork, chart motif and cuff construction. Pattern includes 2 pdf downloads.
Note about needle sizes: Please note that the US size given in one of the pdfs (US3) is for guidance only; it is advisable to check gauge and adjust needle size accordingly - eg going down to US 2 if necessary.
Pattern revision - the following corrections have been made to subsequent editions:
