I often wonder what happened to my favorite characters after their story is told. It’s left up to the imagination of the reader. So what happened to Alice after she returned from Wonderland? She grew up, and went back.

The Mad Hatter had always admired Alice and developed a crush. Since time does not have the same rules in their two realities, they ended up being very close to the same age when she returned as an adult. Eventually the two fell in live and the Hatter and Alice had a child. The Hatter, who always was a bit mad, always referred to his daughter as “Smaller Alice” since he often couldn’t remember her name.

This is the blanket that Alice and The Hatter designed for their baby. The colors and the stripes are reminiscent of many of the elements of Wonderland and the blue lace section on top give a feminine touch. The addition of Cat’s Eye Lace is a tribute to the wee babe’s god father The Cheshire Cat, who brought the Hatter and Alice together. The blanket is knit entirely in seed stitch with the lace panel on top which is a continuation of the knitting, meaning you don’t have to pick up any stitches on this piece! The lace is then sewn down to the blanket so a little bit of the black and white of the base peak out between the eyelets.
