The Alki Shawl was inspired by one of the most iconic locations in Seattle, Alki Beach. Residing in the West Seattle neighborhood and overlooking Elliott Bay, Alki Beach is where Summer bonfires, beach volleyball, and rollerskating reign supreme. Historically, it’s known as the “birthplace of Seattle.” The first white settlers in the area made landfall here and made their initial settlement in 1851. In the Chinook language, Alki means by-and-by. Alki Beach has always been a popular destination, from the Duwamish people using it for fishing and camping to a Summer beach day now.
