All of those Days
I got the idea for this shawl on Christmas Eve, and it was almost a physical pain not being able to start working on it straight away! When I finally had the possibility to get started I could not stop - as it was such a pleasure to see the evolving of the shawl. And the second shawl made a bit bigger….
This shawl is made in an unusual, simple, fun and practical way:
The garter stich border is worked first of all, then patterning starts over the mid-stiches. At the end of each row new stiches from the border is integrated in the pattern. Like this the shawl grows in height as well as width; faster than you can imagine:)
And as you already have made the border you do not have to pick up any stiches in the end!
I enjoy the shape of the shawl so much! It has all the advantages of a triangular shawl, but because of the straight bottom you do not have lots of fabric to be tucked in under coats and jackets. Practical as well as beautiful!
Due to the nature of the side-stich pattern the border will follow the shawl in a soft, scalloped line, all by itself.
The pattern The pattern gives detailed instructions for every row worked, from bottom to top, as well as a clear chart for the main-pattern.
The stiches involved are k, p, ssk, k2tog, yo as well as wrap and turns (carefully explained).
I used 3 contrasting colors (CC) and the main color (MC) to work both shawls. 50gr/1.75oz and 250m/274yards in each color is more than sufficient.
You could work the shawl in only 2 colors as well as several. There are no limits except your taste and imagination.
Sizing From tip-to tip neck-line: Small shawl 122cm/48”
Large shawl 140cm/55”
Height: Small shawl 46cm/18” Large shawl 58cm/23”
Please note The shawl needs blocking to come into full bloom:)
