Security Blanket / All Purpose Knitted Afghan
Called Security Blanket in Knitting for Peace and called All Purpose Knitted Afghan on website
Pattern Description from Knitting for Peace: “A soft, ever-present blanket lends peace to kids of all ages in stressful situations. The smaller security blanket … is perfect for a young child or baby; the larger size will comfort a teen.”
“Knit in a modified feather-and-fan stitch, this blanket is pretty and extremely easy to complete--the entire pattern consists of three rows, two of which involve straight knitting or purling. These blankets are sure to be well-loved and well-used by kids, so be sure to choose a machine-washable yarn. If you’re unsure about a yarn’s washability, knit a swatch, then run it through the washer and dryer to see if it will work.”
Yarn: Approximately 875 (1450) yards washable worsted-weight yarn. Sample in book shown in Brown Sheep Company Cotton Fleece (80% cotton/20% merino wool).
Needles:
- One 24” circular (circ) needle size US 9 (5.5 mm) for light worsted-weight yarn or
- One 24” circular (circ) needle size US 10 (6 mm) for medium to heavy worsted-weight yarn
- Change needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Notions: Yarn needle.
Pattern Notes: Use size 9 needles with light worsted-weight yarn, and size 10 needles with heavy worsted-weight yarn.
