These gloves showcase traditional Shetland fairisle motifs in a beautiful natural palette of blue, brown and grey.
Allendale is a small village close to where I grew up in rural Northumberland. Traditionally, the tenant farmers in the area were required to paint the woodwork on the farms a rich prussian blue almost identical to the colour I have used in these gloves, so that the landlord could recognise which properties were his! Knitting these I was reminded of this colour everywhere around our farm growing up, and the name stuck!
These gloves are a satisfying and quick knit- using only small amounts of 5 different colours. They are fantastic for using different bits of colours left over from other larger projects and for experimenting with different colour blending. The pattern is fully edited and contains a combination of easy to read charts and written instructions. The construction includes an ‘afterthought thumb’- the construction of this and the fingers are explained thoroughly in the pattern.
