THE INSPIRATION

Everyone needs a bestie who inspires them creatively, and I named this pattern after mine. You can check out Allison’s precious crochet creations on Instagram at @loopycatcrochet! She is cute, quirky, and makes me feel adorable every day, just like her beanie. I am so thankful to have met her; she is just a joy!

THE CONSTRUCTION

This beanie pattern features a cute polka-dotted design created with bobbles, which looks great on kids or kids-at-heart, so I included instructions for an adult size and for a child size. Cat ear beanies are so hot right now, so you can opt to knit a cat eared version of this beanie as well as the classic pattern. I’m also going to show you how to knit each beanie flat or in the round.

THE YARN

The yarn I chose for this project is We are Knitters’ Petite Wool, available online here. (Use code MGM10ULLF to receive $12 off your first order from We Are Knitters!) I love wool, and this top-quality Peruvian wool is one of my absolute favorites! They have a huge selection of weights and colors available on their website, as well as a wide variety of knitting and crochet kits for every skill level. I highly recommend their amazing products!

MATERIALS

  • For the adult size: Approx 100 - 130 yards (91 - 119 m) of Color 1 and 25 - 30 (23 - 27 m) of Color 2 in a bulky weight (5) yarn.

  • For the child size: Approx 40 - 60 yards (37 - 55 m) of Color 1 and 10 - 20 (9 - 16 m) of Color 2 in a bulky weight (5) yarn.

  • US Size 11 (8mm) knitting needles (or size needed to obtain gauge) - straight or 16” circular - if knitting the classic style in the round, you will also need the same size double-pointed needles.

  • Common notions such as a yarn needle, scissors, and at least 1 stitch marker.

Note that this design is knit with negative ease, so it will stretch at the brim to fit the head.
