Alma Bonnet
My Almabonnet - my bonnet for larger babies and children beyond baby age …
Asked by several friends, if i could make bonnets for their “older” children aged 3 - 7 years, i soon found out that noone i could find provided patterns for bonnets of that size - and all my attempts to upscale my baby bonnet patterns had me realise: it needs MORE for larger heads than the designs of my rather simple and pure babybonnets: heavier yarn, more structure, more texture, more detail!
So - that is how my Almabonnet came along: with a picot edge at the front of the brim, a beautiful lace pattern and a little line of garter stitch to accentuate the end of the brim. … ah … this bonnet really is a dream come true for those, who like it a little less minimalistic and agree with me, that not only children up to toddler age just look the cutest with those bonnet shaped hats! Also- it comes with my specific back-of-the-head shape that will allow a snuggely close fit around the neck, where most other bonnet constructions tend to “gap”…
The bonnet is knitted in one piece, all you need to sew on is the i-cords.
All methods needed (like knitting short rows, the lace details, the back of the head etc.) are explained in detail with photographs and text, so it it should be a quick an easy little knit for advenced knitters and a challenge i will be happy to help mastering for beginners.
This pattern asks for DK or worsted weight yarn and 3.5mm needles.
oh, and you will need a crochet hook for the picots!
