Neat hat with complex cabling, designed to match the Almondell Fingerless Gloves.

The word “Almondell” refers to the River Almond in West Lothian in Central Scotland, where I grew up and now live. “Almond” has nothing to do with the nut and is thought to be a derivation of the Old Celtic word for river: “amon”.
Almondell and Calderwood Country Park is a lovely wooded park, with countryside walks, through which the river meanders.

Size
To fit head size S/M (51-55cm/20-22”) & M/L (55-61cm/22-24”)

Actual size S/M=44cm/17.5” (length 8”/20cm) & M/L= 49.5cm/19.5” (length 8.5”/21.25cm) approx.

It is essential that you work to the stated tension, or your hat may not fit as expected.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

The smaller needle is only used on the last couple of rows on the smaller sized hat to help the centre top lie flat and is optional.

Pattern is both charted and has full written instructions.

When choosing yarn, bear in mind that the complex cables will show up better on a solid or semi-solid colourway than on a variegated yarn.

In addition to the yarn you’ll need:

~ 2.75mm/US2 circular needle long enough for magic loop (or set of dpns) - or size to get gauge.
~ circular needle/dpns one size smaller than this (S/M size only, optional)
~ cable needle
~ darning/tapestry needle for weaving in ends
~ 8(9) stitch markers (optional)
