This pattern features two columns of garter stitch, which moves closer together up the sock, cross at the front of the ankle, and move back apart, calling to mind the curving paths or bridges one might find in a park or along a walking greenway. There is a reflecting central lace panel that fits into the space between the garter columns, above and below the cross, resembling the iron fretwork featured in many bridges, or the shrubs along the path.

It may be possible to knit the YOs as if they are m1L and m1R stitches on the next round, to close up the holes and make the sock more masculine.

The pattern:

  • is written for toe-up or top-down either one.
  • has a fairly easy pattern
  • is a formula, and the knitter may apply their own favorite toe/heel/cast off. I have included an “Elegant Toe(c),” plus pertinent links in case the knitter is unfamiliar with a different toe or heel technique.
  • is written in 15 possible size/yarn weight combinations involving 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 64. and 72 stitches
  • is both written and charted
