On a daily walk along the shore with my dogs I came across this humorous monument at the sandbanks - a seawashed wooden stake with a wooden sign saying “Monument”. It appealed to me- the purity and use of natural materials found nearby, the great humour and simpleness.

I carried it in my mind, thinking that one day I would make knitting-pictures beside it. I wanted to knit up something based on the same principles; with natural materials found locally, simple lines, close to nature.

And here it is - the “Along the Shore” cardigan! Knitted in ecological wool from a Swedish brand, in a natural color and with the simple lines and a generous collar to embrace a body wanting warmth and coziness.
The cardigan is a simple knit that would suit any knitter. No special skills are needed. All pieces are knitted bottom-up and seemed together. The collar is integrated in the knitting which means much less finishing work. The simple structure of seed stitches combined with st st forming irregular stripes adds interest, the sleeves are divided in a st st part and a rib-part. The collar is knitted in rib-pattern, and is getting wider from bust-height.
You can use the cardigan belted, with a brooch or just open. It will dance around your body when walking, it feels elegant and in the same time generous enough to hide lots of clothing underneath.

I used Marks and Kattens “Eco” - but there are lots of possibilities out there to be used - as long as you respect the gauge.
