Alpaka Tunic
Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Fall 2009: “Outsize lace panels create long vertical lines that flatter in the Alpaka Tunic. Deborah Newton designed an A-line shilhouette that works equally well with minimal or plenty of positive ease. A gently felted roving-style alpaca yarn makes for crisply defined lace patterns in a silky and fluid fabric.”
Finished Size: 43 (48½, 54)“ bust circumference. Dress shown measures 43”, modeled with plenty of positive ease.
Yarn: Schoppel Wolle Baby Alpaka Naturbelassen (50% wool, 50% alpaca; 219 yd 199 m/100 g): #8870 charcoal, 6 (7, 8) skeins. Yarn distributed by Skacel.
Needles: Sizes 9 (5.5 mm) and 10 (6 mm): 24” circular (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Markers (m); tapestry needle.
Additional Gauge: 23 sts of lace chart measures 5½“ wide on larger needle.
Note: Keep track of number of rows worked throughout to aid in placing decreases.
The dress is knitted flat in 4 pieces (front, back, sleeves) which are then assembled and seamed. The pattern has charted lace and includes a schematic.
