This is a pattern for a pair of socks that employs the Alpine method of cabling. It is set apart from the Aran method, primarily because all knitted stitches are knit through the back loop. In a sock, the other major difference does not show, while in a flat piece it does. The other distinguishing characteristic of an Alpine (rather than Aran) cable, is that it is cabled on both sides of the work, when worked back and forth. Therefore, in a sock pattern, it is cabled every round. This one is made using 2 circular needles, and knit from the top down. It does include sizing for small, medium and large.
The pattern is both charted and written out line by line.
Skill Level: Intermediate - Intermediate + (assuming a good working knowledge of cable knitting.)
The yarn used in the sample is Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in the colorway, Lilac.
The socks was expertly pattern tested by Jen Kelley who can be contacted at: thehulkstoy@gmail.com, who is known on Ravelry as thehulkstoy.
