About:
Alpine crossing hat was inspired by our trip to the Tongariro Crossing, in the North Island of New Zealand. This spectacular landscape has mountain views, and beautiful trails to hike. This hat has been designed to reflect the mountainous landscape, and to take with you when hiking. The Alpine crossing hat is a stranded colorwork pattern using two colours of Fingering/4ply yarn and is sized for 5 sizes, from Preemie to adult.

Recommended Yarn:
Fingering / 4ply weight
Two high contrasting colours of smooth, single colour, 100% Merino yarn.

The sample shown was knitted in Union Fibre Fingering 100% Merino in colours Tundra and Pinnacle.

A tip for finding well contrasting colours is to take a photo of your two balls/skeins of yarn next to each other, then edit the photo to black and white. This will show the depth of contrast for your colour choices, in turn making sure the colorwork stands out.

Gauge:
Knit in stocking stitch in the round, 30 stitches x 36 rounds = 10 cm / 4”

Recommended Needles: (adjust needles as required to meet gauge)
• 2.75mm / US 2, 30-40cm / 12-16” length circular needles for ribbing.
• 3.25mm / US 3, 30-40cm / 12-16” length circular needles for main body of hat.
• Your preferred small circumference method for the smallest hat sizes and for the crown decreases. (I recommend using magic loop or double pointed needles)
