Alternating Rhythm Shawl
“Alternating Rhythm” is a symmetrical triangular shawl starting at the center. It combines two-color brioche and a two-color variation of seed stitch to create a varied knitted piece. The edge of the shawl only features the main colour for a couple of final brioche rows.
Although the two different gauges don’t seem to fit together, a certain technique is used to unite them in a way that a uniform fabric is created. As with classic two-color brioche, each row is knitted twice for both stitchpatterns.
Because both stitchpatterns are created from regularly repeating sequences, the knitting process of this shawl becomes a rather rhythmic process. After a couple of repeats the rhythmic stitchpatterns will be knitted quite intuitively.
The rhythmic nature of the stitchpatterns used is also the origin of the name for this pattern.
The pattern is designed in Nutiden (neutral version), but I could not resist knitting as second sample in my handspun yarn (colourful fade version). It turned out that the pattern worked perfectly on the much smaller gauge with the smaller needle. And the stitchcounts for the additional repeats are also included in the pattern.
MATERIALS:
Yarn: Honer och Eir Nutiden unspun held double
300g of main colour and 200g of contrast colour
The sample used 2x100g plates of “Ragat” and 2x100g plates of “Skymt”.
But since every Nutiden blend is different in yardage, I recommend having the amounts mentioned above to achieve a similar result to the sample.
