Altogether Sideways
Both the yoke and the torso are knitted sideways for this top. FITTING NOTE: Sideways knitting has a little bit less stretch around the body than verti- cal knitting. Because of this, some wearers prefer to knit a size larger than usual in sideways knitted sweaters.
YARN, GAUGE AND MACHINE: Use any worsted weight yarn that gets a gauge of 4 stitches/6 rows per inch at about stitch size 5-6 on the bulky. Most mid-gauge machines can match the gauge. Bonds try key-plate 3. Any machine that can match the gauge will work fine. No ribber is required and hobby machines are suitable. For a standard gauge sweater choose a soft yarn that can get a gauge of 7 stitches/10 rows per inch on the standard gauge or Passap machine. Tamm Astracryl 3 ply is always a good choice. Note: The sample is made from Silk City .75 cotton. Some of this cotton is a bit stiff to knit, though it softens up wonderfully when washed. When knitting a yarn like this, it can help to substitute the double e-wrap cast on for the regular e-wrap. This makes knit- ting the first row much easier. 1 lb. is sufficient through size 45.
