Named after my favorite not-so-bad boy from the Tales of Xillia video games, Alvin is a unisex fingerless mitt with plenty of texture to keep knitters challenged without being overly complicated. The cabled backhand provides visual interest, while the textured palm gives a little more cushion than a regular Stockinette palm. Knit in a solid or tonal yarn with a rustic feel, these will be your go-to mitts any time your hands need a little extra warmth!

Now in 2 sizes! Small (Large) fit most adults and teens. Finished mitts measure approximately 6.5” (7.5”) in circumference, blocked and unstretched. These will stretch, especially in the palm, to fit a variety of hand sizes.

Gauge: 8.5 sts and 10 rnds=1”, or 34 sts and 40 rnds=4” in shifting rib pattern on larger needle, knit in the round and blocked.

Materials: US size 1 and 2 (2.25mm and 2.75mm) needles for knitting in the round (DPNs, 9”circular, 2 circulars or long circulars for Magic Loop, depending on your preference), cable needle, stitch markers, tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Sample shown used one skein of Fibre Company Cumbria Fingering yarn in color Scafell Pike. If substituting yarns, I recommend a heavier fingering weight to make gauge. The fiber content in Cumbria Fingering gives a soft but rustic feel with a hint of halo that doesn’t interfere with the stitch definition. Any plied yard that offers good stitch definition will work well with this pattern. A solid or tonal will be best for showing off the cables, but you’re welcome to use any color that floats your boat.
