GENERAL INFORMATION:
The cowl is a simple knit worked in the round using mainly knit stitch. The occasional purl rows and slipped stitches keep your attention and allows the textured design to emerge. The instructions are for a short or long cowl (see cover picture), but you can easily adjust the circumference or length. Adjust the cowl circumference by changing the stitch count by multiples of 8 sts (one pattern repeat). The length can be adjusted by working more or fewer repeats of the pattern section.

SIZE:
Short Cowl:
Circumference: 22¾ inches / 57 cm.
Height: 10¾ inches / 29 cm
Long Cowl:
Circumference: 22¾ inches / 57 cm.
Height: 16 inches / 46 cm.

MATERIALS:
Recommended Yarn:
Malabrigo Arroyo. DK / Sport weight yarn, 100% superwash merino, 306 m / 335 yds / 100g.
Shown in colourways Diana and Sand Bank.

Yarn Choice: When choosing your colours, it is important to have a good contrast (light vs dark, or completely different colours). The pattern is best suited to solid or semi solid colours. Resist the temptation to buy two yarns that complement each other because they share colours in common as the pattern will be quickly lost. Likewise, if you want to use a variegated yarn, make it a bold one, and the other skein a vastly different solid neutral shade.

Short Cowl:
MC: 140 m / 153 yds sport weight yarn.
CC: 140 m / 153 yds sport weight yarn.
Long Cowl:
MC: 200 m / 218 yds sport weight yarn.
CC 200 m / 218 yds sport weight yarn.

Needles and Notions:
3.75 mm (US 5) circular needles 16 – 24 inches / 40 - 60 cm long or size required to obtain gauge.
BOR marker.
Tapestry needle to sew in ends.

GAUGE:
24 sts and 38 rows to 4 inches / 10 cm in slip stitch pattern, after washing and drying flat. Gauge is not too critical for this cowl, although a different gauge will affect the size and change yarn requirements.
