The main challenge of the Amala blanket is using proper intarsia when switching colours for the different triangles, and keeping the yarn organized on the backside. Intarsia has the advantage of not only limiting yarn usage for the different colours and keeping the backside neat and tidy, it makes the blanket safe for use even for very small babies – ensuring thus that their fingers don’t get stuck in the loops on the backside.

To make the triangle rows, it is best to organize the main colour (off white in this model) into smaller skeins of about 5 m / 5.5 yds, which will avoid that the different yarns get tangled up on the backside.

For each separate colour triangle, I suggest you prepare a 2.5 m / 2.75 yd long thread.

You can easily modify the size of the blanket, by adding triangles in the row, and knitting more triangle rows in total. For each added triangle shape in the row, you will need to add 14 stitches at the initial cast-on.

Main colour (off white - 801): 2 skeins (260 meters / 284 yards)
C1 (blue – 814) : 1 skein (70 m / 76.5 yards)
C2 (mustard yellow – 822) : 1 skein (70 m / 76.5 yards)
C3 (soft pink – 835) : 1 skein (70 m / 76.5 yards)
