Amalosia
Amalosia is a shawl inspired by Lesueur’s Velvet Gecko (AMALOSIA lesueurii) pigmentation in a shape of a chevron outlined over its body, designed by the nature to protect this creature. As soon as I saw it I felt inspired to create a garment that gives the same impression of a protective shield, but it’s built up from a soft and warm, woolen yarn in a chevron textural pattern, that is cozy to wear and easy to knit.
Construction
AMALOSIA is an asymmetric triangular shawl worked top-down in textural Chevron Cable Pattern with Lopps that gradually grows across the top edge to later transform into garter stitch. Cable pattern used in this design is easy to memorize and might be worked without cable needle. I-cord Loops that pop up over each central cable cross, add texture and volume to the garment and are worked in one row.
Measurements
wingspan: 180 cm/72”
depth: 70 cm/28”
Yarn
Ulysse by De Rerum Natura (100% Wool, 185m/202y per 50g), shown in colorway: Quartz

5 skeins of Ulysse by De Rerum Natura
or 924 m /1010 yds of sport weight yarn

3 stitch markers, 2 cable needles in size similar to working needle, blocking wires.
Gauge
20 sts x 30 rows = 10 cm/4” x 10 cm/4” in stockinette stitch worked flat, after blocking.
19 sts x 30 rows = 10 cm/4” x 10 cm/4” in garter stitch worked flat, after blocking.
22 sts x 10 rows = 11 cm/4.4” x 3.3 cm/1.3” in Chevron Cable Pattern with Loop (1 pattern repeat)
The gauge isn’t crucial on this project, but differences will affect the finished size as well as the required yardage.
