Here is a versatile beanie with an easy lace knit pattern that will work up in no time; options given for worsted/aran and Bulky versions. (Although it looks a little like cables, it is just a simple lace pattern using knit, purl, increases and decreases using yarn-over, knit two together, and ssk.)

Knit in the round on circular needles with dpns for the final rounds.

Uses less than 90g of Paintbox Simply Aran or less than 70 g of Lion Brand Color Made Easy.

After feedback I adjusted the pattern to add length with more repeats and also added a foldover brim for the aran version.
