After it rains two inches, wait two weeks and mushrooms will be popping up everywhere in the woods. While it’s raining, you might as well knit a cozy hat for your favourite mycologist’s next venture out. Amanitas are one of the most common and visually striking mushrooms we see here on the west coast of Vancouver Island – but don’t eat ‘em!

The finished hat is 19½ (21½)”/ 49.5 (54.5)cm around at brim and 10 (11)”/ 25.5 (28)cm deep. To fit with approximately 2”/5cm negative ease.

Materials:
Sweet Paprika Filigree, 1-ply sport weight yarn, 100% Canadian wool, 430y/ 393m; 110g/ 4 oz.

Tools:
US 3 (3.25mm) 16”/ 40cm circular and double pointed needles or needle size necessary to obtain gauge; US 2 (2.75mm) 16”/40cm circular needles, or 2 sizes smaller than gauge needle; stitch marker; tapestry needle.
