This is a pattern for a very “long wingspan” crescent shaped shawl that is comprised of two different lace stitches. The ornate lace edging stitch is added in the traditional Shetland manner, and gives a beautiful and graceful bottom to the shawl. Nor is it nearly as difficult as it looks.

The shawl measures 68 inches at the widest points across the top and is 28 inches deep at the deepest point. It is made with a heavier of the fingering weight yarns, and is knit on size 7 (U.S.) needles.

The stitches are both charted and written out line by line.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a basic knowledge of lace knitting).

The shawl/stole was expertly test knitted by Julie Anderson, who can be reached at: kuli.anderson@ charter.net The shawl was knitted using Mrs. Crosby’s Hat Box yarn in colorway, French Chambray.
